FAQs

First and foremost, is this a Christian co-op?
Both Sarah and Marci are Christians. We plan to weave the Truth of God’s creation into our instruction. While we believe that parents have the primary responsibility and privilege of instilling faith in their children, we desire to partner with you in that venture.

Why?

We believe learning is a lifestyle and doesn’t require 7 hours a day in a formal setting. Children should be able to move and learn at the same time, and fresh air and sunshine are essential to our health. Marci once taught Sarah. Our paths crossed in other educational settings, at a charter and online. We’ve both taught at public schools (50 years combined experience!). While Marci is just about done homeschooling, Sarah was determined to not put her active kids in a school where they were sitting all day. After a couple years and conversations of saying, “We wish…,” “We ought to…,” we finally said, “Let’s do it!!”

tuition

Now that our location is set, the co-op tuition will be $350 per month over 10 months.

financial aid & multi-student discount

With a brand new venture, we do not have the ability to offer financial aid at this time.

We are not expecting to offer discounts except for teachers and volunteers.

Policies

Our policies can be found in our Blog sections. Check back soon.

location

We are meeting at the beautiful Blue Mountain Christian Retreat outside of New Ringgold, Pennsylvania (Tuesday & Wednesday, 9-2). We have access to everything nature has to offer: forest, hiking, pond, creek, wildlife, greenhouse, farm fields. The possibilities are endless!

parent involvement

This is a drop-and-go co-op. Parent volunteers are always welcome (with clearances on file).

classes

At the elementary level, we plan to provide supplementary studies that reinforce academics. Nature and science will be our focus, and we will provide reinforcement for reading and math.

At the secondary level, we will provide academic content coordinated with home learning. We know graduation requirements are important, and will work with each family to individualize topics of study. There will still be lots of nature and science, as well as math and English.

At all levels, content will be integrated as much as possible, so don't count anything out!

curriculum

We are still selecting curriculum we will use and will definitely share as soon as it’s decided. You do not have to use the same curriculum we do. At the secondary level, we may recommend certain courses or curriculum.

virtual

At the secondary level, students will have the option of virtual days in addition to our in-person days. These may be group or 1-to-1, depending on the subject.

field trips

We have discussed many locations for field trips. We hope to do them once or twice a month. Parents will transport students.

homeschool registration

Blooming Roots Academy is a hybrid homeschool co-op. We are not a registered school with the Pennsylvania Department of Education. We will walk you through the steps to register and keep your homeschool paperwork on file.

Tutoring

Tutoring and instruction in other subjects is also available outside of co-op sessions. Marci is a veteran math teacher who loves many subjects! Virtual math instruction coordinated with your own curriculum is available, and other subjects are available upon request.
